Upset stomach, dizziness, or nausea may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. This medication may raise your blood pressure. Check your blood pressure regularly and tell your doctor if the results are high. Tell your doctor right away if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: stomach pain, heartburn, hearing changes (e.g., ringing in the ears, decreased hearing), symptoms of heart failure (such as swelling ankles/feet, unusual tiredness, unusual/sudden weight gain). Stop taking salsalate and tell your doctor right away if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: fast/pounding heartbeat, signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine), easy bruising/bleeding, signs of infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat). This drug may rarely cause serious, possibly fatal liver disease. If you notice any of the following rare but very serious side effects, stop taking salsalate and consult your doctor or pharmacist right away: dark urine, yellowing eyes/skin, unusual/extreme tiredness, severe stomach/abdominal pain, persistent nausea/vomiting. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
