This medication is used to treat head lice, tiny insects that attach to your hair and live on the blood from your scalp. Head lice infestation causes itching and irritation of the scalp. Ivermectin works by paralyzing and killing parasites such as lice and their eggs (nits). Ivermectin lotion is not recommended for use in children younger than 6 months of age. Too much medication may be absorbed through their skin, leading to an increased risk of side effects.
Skin irritation (such as redness or a burning feeling) may rarely occur. If this effect persists or worsens, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
