This medication is used after other medications to treat a certain liver disease (Wilson's disease). This inherited disease causes the liver to hold onto too much copper, resulting in liver damage and other serious problems. This medication causes the intestines to make more of a certain substance (a protein) that prevents the body from absorbing too much copper from food, thereby preventing further damage.
Upset stomach may occur. If this effect persists or worsens, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
